Accra, Aug. 10, 24Hour News – Senior Advocate and public commentator, Citizen Joel Degue, is calling for the development of a scenic coastal and lagoon-side roadway in the Keta Municipality, similar to the famed Corniche Est in Cotonou, Benin.
In a public reflection dated August 10, 2026, Mr. Degue described the Corniche Est in Akpakpa, Cotonou, as “A BEAUTY TO BEHOLD.”
He noted that the East Corniche offers views of docked fishing boats, local art installations like the OCBN Graffiti Wall, and sits in proximity to high-end facilities such as the Sofitel Cotonou Marina Hotel & Spa along the coast of the Gulf of Guinea.
“Can we have the same along the Azizadzi area to the Afiadenyigba community or Tyregãgbor to Anloga Market along the Keta Lagoon?” he asked. “Just thinking aloud.” – Citizen Joel Degue
The Keta Lagoon stretch from Azizadzi through Afiadenyigba to Anloga Market is one of the most populated and economically active corridors in the Volta Region, serving fishing communities and traders daily.
Mr. Degue’s proposal has sparked conversations on social media about tourism potential, job creation, and urban beautification for Keta and Anloga, especially as Ghana pushes to develop coastal infrastructure and the creative economy.
Urban planners say a “Keta Corniche” could combine a roadway, walkways, fishing jetties, art spaces, and recreational areas to boost tourism while preserving the lagoon ecosystem and livelihoods of fisherfolk.
Citizens in the area have long advocated for the de-siltation of the Keta Lagoon and improved road networks to open up the coastal belt for investment.
