Dzodze – 24Hour News – August 10, 2026 – MCE for Ketu North, Hon Martin Amenaki, has called for urgent action to restore the Dzodze Water System after it was damaged during the construction of the Big Push project.
Speaking after a stakeholder meeting in his office at the Municipal Assembly in Dzodze, Hon Amenaki said the contractor and his team destroyed the main water pipeline during road construction works, cutting off water supply to homes in Dzodze, Penyi and other surrounding communities.
“Water could no longer run to any house. The people petitioned the contractor and the Ghana Highway Authority through my office several times, but nothing was done about it,” he said.
According to the MCE, frustrated residents later channeled their grievances to the office of the Volta Regional Minister about two weeks ago. That intervention appears to have triggered swift action.
This morning, the Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Highway Authority met with Hon Amenaki in Dzodze. Also in attendance were the Dzodze Water Board, Municipal Assembly representatives, and representatives of the chiefs of Dzodze.
He described the meeting as successful and a major step toward resolving the crisis. “The Regional Director of the Ghana Highway Authority brought the subcontractor to assess the situation so that the necessary measures can be taken,” Hon Amenaki stated.
The MCE expressed optimism that the water system will be restored within the shortest possible time.
“The Ghana Highway Authority engineer will now take over the Dzodze water pipeline issue and work on it so that the people of Dzodze and Penyi can have access to water as soon as possible,” he added.
Hon Amenaki thanked the chiefs, residents, and stakeholders for their patience and for following due process to get the issue addressed. He urged the contractor to work closely with the Water Board to avoid a repeat of such damage on future projects.
Residents of Dzodze and Penyi have been without regular water supply for weeks since the damage occurred. Many have had to rely on boreholes and water vendors, increasing their cost of living.
Members of the Dzodze Water Board present at the meeting welcomed the intervention and pledged to monitor the restoration works to ensure timely completion.
