
HO, Aug. 9, 24HourNews – Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has thrown his weight behind the upcoming 6th Inter-Regional Wheelchair Basketball Competition set for Ho.
The Minister made the pledge when executives of the Volta Para Sports and Mobility Empowerment Association VPMEA, led by President Madam Betty Gharbin, paid him a courtesy call at the Regional Coordinating Council.

The delegation informed Hon. Gunu that the 4-day tournament will take place from 14th to 17th August 2026 at the Ho Sports Stadium. According to them, the event is aimed at promoting inclusion, showcasing talent, and empowering persons with disabilities through sports.
Commending VPMEA for championing para sports in the region, Hon. Gunu said the RCC remains committed to creating equal opportunities for all residents, including persons with disabilities.
To support the championship, he presented a cash donation of GH¢10,000, bags of rice, and assured the team of help with transport and security logistics for the duration of the competition.

The Regional Minister urged participating teams to compete in the spirit of unity and sportsmanship, and wished them a successful and incident-free tournament.
Madam Gharbin thanked the Minister for the gesture, saying the support will go a long way to ensure a well-organized event that highlights the abilities of athletes with disabilities.
