Dzodze- Kave, May 7, 2026 — Pencils of Promise, in partnership with the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, has cut the sod for the construction of a new four-unit kindergarten block at Kave MA Basic School.
The modern facility will include four classrooms, an office for teachers, a storeroom, six toilet facilities and urinals, as well as a rainwater harvesting system. The project is aimed at improving access to quality education and creating a conducive learning environment for children in underserved communities.
Pencils of Promise will finance 80 percent of the project cost, while the beneficiary community will contribute the remaining 20 percent through communal labour and local materials. Hon. Agbana said he has personally committed to covering the estimated GH¢125,000 cost of gravel and sand to ensure immediate commencement of work.

aking at the ceremony, Hon. Agbana described early childhood education as critical to child development and the foundation of learning. He noted that Kave had operated for years without a proper kindergarten block, forcing young pupils to study in overcrowded and unconducive spaces.
“This project is a major intervention to give children in the area a strong educational foundation,” he said. He also cautioned against the misuse of building materials and announced plans to provide streetlights at the site to enhance security and prevent theft.
Pencils of Promise Country Director, Freeman Gobah, said the organisation would continue to support infrastructure development in underserved areas, with the community expected to play an active role in ensuring sustainability.
Prince Agbenya, Public Relations Officer for the Ketu North Education Directorate, described the project as a significant boost to education delivery in the municipality.
The sod-cutting was attended by traditional leaders, community members, teachers, and pupils, marking a key milestone in efforts to strengthen education infrastructure in Ketu North.
