
Accra, Oct. 7, 24HourNews – The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, GoldBod, Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., has received a delegation from the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa, UNU-INRA, led by its Director, Dr Richard Munang.
The meeting, held at GoldBod’s offices, focused on sustainability and opportunities for collaboration towards protecting and restoring Ghana’s environment.
During the engagement, GoldBod highlighted its ongoing environmental interventions aimed at mitigating the impact of mining and promoting sustainable resource management.
The Deputy CEO disclosed that GoldBod has so far reclaimed 50 hectares of degraded land in the Tano Nimri Forest Reserve, as part of efforts to restore degraded forest landscapes.
He added that the Board has also undertaken the rehabilitation of three Ghana Water Limited treatment plants serving over 76 communities and about 100,000 people, to ensure access to clean and safe water in mining-affected areas.
Dr Richard Munang commended GoldBod for its commitment to environmental restoration and sustainable development, describing the interventions as critical to safeguarding livelihoods and ecosystems.
On his part, Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., welcomed further collaboration with UNU-INRA to advance shared sustainability goals and to leverage research and innovation to protect the environment.
Both institutions expressed optimism about deepening their partnership to promote responsible mining and environmental stewardship in Ghana.
