Accra, Oct. 4 – The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has cautioned Ghanaian youth against engaging in cybercrime in pursuit of quick wealth.
Speaking on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the Minister stressed that while poverty is not a crime, the desperate quest for fast riches through illegal online activities will have dire consequences.
“It’s okay to be poor, but seeking wealth quickly through cybercrime will destroy you,” she warned.
Hon. Gomashie’s caution comes amid growing concerns over the rising involvement of young people in internet fraud and other forms of cybercrime, often motivated by pressure to display affluence on social media.
She urged the youth to embrace hard work, patience and legitimate pathways to success, noting that government is committed to creating opportunities through tourism, culture and the creative arts sector.
The Minister further called on parents, traditional leaders and the creative community to play a role in discouraging the get-rich-quick mentality that is pushing many young Ghanaians into criminal activities.
