Denu, Sept. 27, 24HourNews – Director of Sports in charge of the Duamenefa Regional Tournament (DRT), Patrick Doamekpor, has resigned from the Duamenefa Foundation, FAFAA 100.3 FM effective 5th September, 2026.
In a resignation letter dated 5th September, 2026 and addressed to the Board Members of the Duamenefa Foundation, Mr. Doamekpor cited serious reflection and growing dissatisfaction with certain actions, attitudes and administrative practices within the leadership of the Foundation.
He said continuing in the role would require him to tolerate conduct that is fundamentally inconsistent with his principles, conscience and understanding of responsible leadership.
He explained that leadership must be anchored in truth, integrity, accountability, transparency, fairness and respect for the people one is entrusted to lead, but his experience within the Foundation, he noted, has been contrary.
Mr. Doamekpor said he has completely lost confidence in the leadership of the President of the Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe. Based on his personal dealings and experiences, he encountered what he described as serious inconsistencies in communication, misleading representations, manipulation of information and conduct that substantially undermined his trust in his leadership.
He also said he is disturbed by what he perceives to be an excessive emphasis on financial interests in certain decisions, stressing that money must never take precedence over honesty, accountability, human dignity and the welfare of young people whose hopes and futures are at stake.
Mr. Doamekpor cited the handling of the matter involving Freeman Gakli Jr’s travel to Cyprus as a major turning point.
He disclosed that he was directly involved in the process, including documentation, travel arrangements, insurance, accommodation, transportation, financial commitments and communication concerning the player’s opportunity.
Freeman travelled to Cyprus and underwent an assessment, but it later became clear that the club’s registration for the season had closed and its available foreign-player slots had been filled. Consequently, he could not be registered at that time and was required to return, with the possibility of another opportunity in the future.
Mr. Doamekpor clarified that the unsuccessful registration itself was not his concern, but the manner in which the matter was subsequently handled, communicated and represented, particularly by Mr. Ketaman.
He said the matter involved Mr. Ketaman, himself, Michael, an agent in Cyprus and other parties, and such a sensitive issue should have been managed with complete honesty, maturity, openness and accountability from beginning to end. Instead, it was marked by mistrust, accusations, conflicting narratives and unnecessary tension.
He added that he was particularly disturbed by the decision to contact his agent in Cyprus in what appeared to be an attempt to investigate Michael and him, while creating suspicion and division among people who had been working together in the player’s interest. He described the approach as inappropriate, unprofessional and immature.
He stated that his name, reputation and conscience are more important to him than any position he may occupy.
He noted that he invested substantial time, energy, ideas, effort and personal commitment in the development of the tournament because he believed in using sports to identify talent, create opportunities, unite communities and provide young people with a platform to pursue their ambitions.
However, he said, loyalty to an organization must never become a betrayal of one’s own principles.
From 5th September, 2026, he said he does not wish his name to be associated with any decision, representation, financial arrangement or administrative action over which he has no control or which may conflict with his principles.
He expressed gratitude to the clubs, players, coaches, referees, officials, volunteers, traditional authorities, supporters and members of the Local Organizing Committee who contributed to the development and success of the tournament.
“I leave my position without regret, because no office, title, relationship, or financial interest is worth the sacrifice of one’s integrity. I leave with my conscience clear, my dignity intact, and my principles uncompromised,” he stated.
