Environmental Activist Joel Degue Warns Against Sale Of Artificial Islands At Keta Lagoon

Environmental Activist and Climate Justice Advocate, Citizen Joel Degue, has issued a warning notice over claims that artificial islands created at the Keta Sea Defence Project Site are for sale.

In a statement dated 24.07.2026, Mr. Degue said the islands “ARE NOT for sale” and were created solely for conservation and protection purposes.

According to him, the islands are meant to serve as safe habitats for migratory birds from Europe during winter.

“Those who are entertaining the thought of buying them should desist from that. Everyone should keep off!” he stated.

The activist called on the public to respect the intended purpose of the project and to support efforts aimed at protecting the Keta Lagoon ecosystem.

The statement was copied to Wisdom Seade of the Keta Municipal Assembly.
