Keta MP Joins Parliamentary SRHR Training To Boost Health Advocacy

The Member of Parliament for Keta, Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, is currently participating in a Two-Day Capacity-Building Programme on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights in Koforidua.

The programme brings together legislators and policy experts to deliberate on reproductive health, human rights, and access to quality healthcare for vulnerable groups.

According to Hon. Gakpey, the training is deepening lawmakers’ understanding of critical SRHR issues and will enhance their ability to shape responsive health policy.

“The programme is deepening our understanding of critical issues relating to reproductive health, human rights, access to quality healthcare, and the protection of vulnerable groups,” the MP said.

He noted that the knowledge gained will directly inform his advocacy and legislative work, especially on matters affecting women, adolescents, and rural communities.

“The knowledge gained will strengthen my advocacy and parliamentary work in advancing better healthcare, protecting the rights of our people, and ensuring that the health and well-being of the people of Keta Constituency remain strongly represented in national policy discussions,” Hon. Gakpey added.

Issues under discussion at the workshop include maternal health, family planning, adolescent reproductive health education, gender-based violence, and healthcare financing for SRHR services.

The MP reaffirmed his commitment to championing policies that expand access to reproductive health services in Keta, where teenage pregnancy and limited health facilities remain concerns.

The capacity-building programme is being facilitated by health and human rights experts, with support from development partners working to advance SRHR in Ghana.
