Govt Launches GHS598m Turnkey Project To Power 206 Volta Communities.

Ho – Aug. 29 – 24HourNews – Government has launched a GHS598 million Turnkey Electrification Project to connect 206 communities across all 18 Municipal and District Assemblies in the Volta Region to the national grid.

The project, being implemented under the Rural Electrification Improvement Programme (REIP), forms part of government’s flagship Big Push programme and is expected to be completed within six months.

Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, who launched the project in Ho on Friday, said it reaffirms government’s commitment to ensuring no community is left without reliable electricity.

He said government has adopted a targeted regional strategy, with Volta, Oti, Central and Savannah Regions selected for the first phase this year. Under the strategy, four regions will be covered annually until 2030 to achieve universal access.

“The Volta Region project, being implemented by Byes and Ways Limited, will extend electricity supply to 206 communities across the 18 districts. Government is committed to completing these works within six months,” Mr. Jinapor stated. 548d

He said the investment demonstrates government’s resolve to accelerate rural electrification and close the access gap, while major investments are also being made to strengthen transmission and distribution.

The Minister announced the construction of a 161kV transmission line from Asiekpe to Ho and a new Bulk Supply Point / substation in Ho to improve voltage levels and reliability in the regional capital and surrounding areas. The transmission project is being undertaken by Tilt Engineering Limited and is expected to be completed in 12 months.

He added that over 2,000 distribution transformers are being deployed nationwide in ECG and NEDCo operational areas to support expanded access.
