
Nutekpor – Aug. 28 – 24HourNews – GNS ANZONE Division has emerged as the overall best division at the Inter-Division Steeplechase Competition organized by the Naval Recruit Training School (NRTS) at the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Nutekpor, on Friday, August 28, 2026.
The competition, a key component of the recruits’ training programme, was designed to build physical fitness, endurance, agility, coordination and mental resilience while fostering teamwork and healthy competition among the divisions.
Recruits were tasked to complete a demanding 12-kilometre race interspersed with various obstacles, testing their speed, balance, discipline and determination from start to finish.
The Guest of Honour and Training Coordinator of NAVTRAC, Naval Captain David Dela Kpetigo, commended the recruits for their endurance and fighting spirit. He underscored the importance of physical fitness in military training and urged them to sustain the discipline and resilience exhibited during the competition.

“Continue to develop yourselves physically and mentally. The qualities you acquire through such exercises will make you effective and ready as future military personnel,” he stated.
Capt. Kpetigo also praised instructors for their dedication, patience and professionalism in shaping the recruits to the standard displayed.
At the end of the contest, GNS ANZONE Division was adjudged overall best, with GNS DZATA Division and GNS YOGAGA Division securing second and third positions respectively.
Recruit Sanche Theophilus of GNS SEBO Division was named Overall Best Competitor, while Recruit Alueke Evelyn of GNS DZATA Division won the Best Female Competitor award for their outstanding performances. The winning division and individual competitors were presented with awards.

The steeplechase forms part of NRTS’ comprehensive programme to produce physically fit, resilient, disciplined and combat-ready personnel for the Ghana Navy.
