Gov’t Orders Independent Probe Into ECG Overbilling, Faulty Meters In Volta Region.

Ho – Aug. 29- 24HourNews – Government has ordered an independent investigation into widespread complaints of overbilling and faulty electricity meters in the Volta Region.

The probe will be led by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and the Energy Commission, following persistent complaints by residents that they are being billed inaccurately and supplied with defective meters.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, announced the decision on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the launch and sensitisation of the Turnkey Electrification Project in Ho.

Dr. Jinapor said while consumers have a responsibility to pay their electricity bills, they must not be overcharged.

“I am not saying that you should not pay your bills; you must pay your bills. But we want you to pay the right bills,” he stressed.
