Confusion Hits Volta NPP As Regional Secretariat Rejects Chairman’s Appointments

Ho – Aug. 27 – 24HourNews – A fresh rift has emerged in the Volta Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the appointment of new regional officers.

The Regional Chairman, Makafui Kofi Woanyah, on Wednesday announced the appointment of 10 party officers to serve in various capacities in the region. The list included Enyonam Morve as Financial Secretary, Alhassan Samadu as Deputy Organiser, Mercy Kpodo as Deputy Women’s Organiser, Innocent Richard Dzamabi as Deputy Youth Organiser, Karim Raifu as Deputy Nasara Coordinator, Richard Kwadekpo as Electoral Affairs Officer, Ruben Dorcoo as Research Officer, Eric Kwame Akatsi Dumenu as PWD Coordinator, Bless Kofi Dunyo as Legal Representative and Wisdom Jid Gakpo as Special Duties Officer.

Mr Woanyah said the appointments were made in consultation with the National Executive Committee and in line with Article 9(2) of the party’s constitution as amended in 2025.

But in a swift response, the Volta Regional Secretariat has disowned the appointments, describing them as null and void.

In a statement dated August 26, 2026 and signed by Shabanton Moses Kwesi Dutsrogbé, the Secretariat said no meeting of the newly elected Regional Executives had been convened to deliberate or approve any appointments.

It cited Article 9(10) of the NPP Constitution, which mandates that elected Regional Officers, within 14 days of their election and in consultation with the National Executive Committee, collectively appoint regional officers.

According to the Secretariat, since no such collective meeting has taken place since the election, the Chairman’s unilateral announcement cannot be considered a decision of the Regional Executives.

“The appointments did not result from a duly constituted meeting or collective decision and must therefore be disregarded,” the statement noted.

The development has exposed deep cracks within the Volta NPP leadership just weeks after the regional elections.
