Aviation Meets Tourism: Minister Gomashie Wants AWA To Champion Ghana’s Destinations

Accra – Aug. 27 – 24HourNews – Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has challenged domestic airlines to become active partners in marketing Ghana’s tourism.

At a meeting with the management of Africa World Airlines (AWA), the Minister proposed a novel idea – that the airline should sell Ghana’s tourist sites to passengers while they are in the air.

She urged AWA to go beyond ticketing and transportation and use its in-flight announcements, screens and magazines to showcase attractions like the Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, the mystical Tano Boase rock formations and the breathtaking Kintampo Waterfalls.

According to Hon. Gomashie, many passengers who fly domestic routes are potential tourists who simply lack information about what Ghana has to offer.

She also lauded AWA’s new Embraer E190 livery concept, which incorporates Ghana’s red, gold and green colours, noting that it is a powerful symbol of national pride that can project Ghana’s identity across the sub-region.

“Let AWA be our flying ambassador. Every flight should be an invitation to discover Ghana,” she said.

The Ministry says the move is part of a deliberate strategy to link aviation and tourism to increase domestic travel, create jobs and drive local economies around tourist sites.
