UN Ghana Takes Sub-National Consultations To Middle Belt, Engages Ashanti Stakeholders.

 

Kumasi – Aug. 25 – 24HourNews – The United Nations in Ghana has moved its Sub-National Consultations to the middle belt, with engagements beginning in the Ashanti Region on Monday, August 24, 2026.

 

The consultation team met with stakeholders at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, where representatives from government institutions, civil society organisations and other groups shared insights on the region’s development priorities, challenges and opportunities.

 

Discussions centred on pressing issues affecting communities, including youth unemployment and its attendant effects such as teenage pregnancy, drug and substance abuse, illegal mining (galamsey) and its health and environmental implications, child labour, climate change and land degradation, among others.

 

Stakeholders also proposed ways the UN and its partners can better align support to Ghana’s development priorities through the next UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.

 

As part of the engagements, the team also interacted with actors in the informal sector at the Kejetia Market, listening to market leaders on the realities they face, their priorities and the support needed to strengthen their livelihoods.

 

According to the UN Ghana team, the consultations are crucial to ensuring that the next Cooperation Framework reflects regional realities and the lived experiences of people across the country.

 

By engaging diverse sectors and communities, the UN in Ghana says it is working to ensure that development priorities remain inclusive, locally informed and responsive to those at risk of being left behind.
