President John Dramani Mahama has delivered a full truckload of medical equipment to the Ho District Hospital as part of the government’s push to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across the country.
The donation forms part of a nationwide distribution of essential logistics under the Free Primary Healthcare programme, aimed at improving service delivery and expanding access to care in underserved communities.
Speaking at the Ho Municipal Hospital, the President commended health workers for their commitment and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to improve conditions of service in the health sector.
He noted that the Free Primary Healthcare initiative is designed to reach millions of Ghanaians who are not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Under the policy, services at CHPS compounds, health centres and polyclinics will be provided at no cost to patients.
24,000+ items for nationwide rollout
Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, said over 24,000 medical items have been procured for distribution nationwide.
According to him, the policy complements the NHIS and places strong emphasis on preventive care through community outreach and early screening.
“The initiative introduces a proactive model of care, where health professionals will conduct community outreach and home visits to promote preventive health and early diagnosis,” the Minister stated.
Officials say the intervention is expected to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and improve access to essential services across the country, especially at the grassroots level.
