Dzodze Residents Raise Concerns Over Uncovered Gutters On Big Push Road Project

Dzodze, Oct. 4, 24HourNews – Residents of Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region have expressed concerns about the ongoing road construction under the government’s Big Push initiative.

The residents claim that contractors working on the project have informed them that the roadside gutters will not be covered after completion, a situation that has sparked anxiety in the community.

According to them, the old road which is being replaced had concrete slabs covering the gutters. The slabs prevented vehicles and motorbikes from veering into the drains and ensured the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

They fear that leaving the gutters open after the new road is completed will pose serious safety risks, especially for drivers, motor riders and school children who use the stretch daily.

While culverts will reportedly be constructed at intersections to link adjoining roads to the main highway, residents are worried that the main drains along the highway itself will remain uncovered.

They argue that open gutters could lead to accidents, particularly at night and during the rainy season when visibility is poor and the drains may overflow.

Some residents who spoke to 24HourNews have therefore appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ketu North Municipal Assembly and the contractors to reconsider the plan and cover the gutters as was previously done.

They say covering the drains is crucial for ensuring road safety, improving sanitation and enhancing the overall appearance of the town, and that leaving them open would undermine the benefits of the project.

They are calling for urgent intervention by the authorities to address their concerns before the project is completed.
