Accra, Oct. 1 – President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Prof Emmanuel Osei Sarpong as Acting Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
His appointment takes immediate effect following the removal of Yaw Ampofo Ankrah from the position.
Prof Sarpong is expected to take charge of the day-to-day administration of the Authority and oversee ongoing reforms within the sector.
The appointment comes less than a month after President Mahama dissolved the NSA governing board on September 2 over concerns about the deteriorating condition and management of Ghana’s major sporting facilities.
Prof Sarpong takes over at a time when the Authority is under intense public scrutiny, following allegations surrounding a visa facilitation arrangement linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Government sources indicate that his mandate will include restoring accountability, improving the management of stadia and ensuring transparency in the operations of the Authority ahead of the appointment of a substantive Director-General.
