Accra, Sept. 30, 24HourNews – Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, has called for a complete overhaul of Ghana’s football system following the Black Stars’ humiliating 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the AFCON qualifier.
In a statement reacting to the defeat, Hon. Agbana described the loss as disappointing but said it presents an opportunity to confront the real challenges facing Ghana football.
“A disappointing defeat, but this is the moment to confront the fundamentals and fix them. We cannot keep treating the symptoms while ignoring the system,” he stated.
According to him, Ghana must strengthen key areas including player development, scouting, coaching, sports science, youth structures, and accountability across the football ecosystem.
He noted that Ghana is blessed with enormous football talent, but what is lacking is the leadership and commitment to build a sustainable system.
“The talent is there. The potential is there. What we need now is leadership, discipline, investment, and the courage to make the necessary changes,” he said.
Hon. Agbana also stressed the need to stop postponing hard decisions, urging stakeholders to fix the foundations and restore the Black Stars to a level worthy of Ghana.
“The Ghana Football Association needs the necessary support to turn things around. It is possible. It can be done. But it will not happen by itself. The time to act is NOW. It takes Leadership,” he added.
Ghana suffered a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia on Monday, a result that has sparked widespread disappointment among football fans.
