Anloga, Sept. 30, 24HourNews – The chiefs and people of Anlo have fixed Saturday, November 7, 2026, for this year’s Anlo Hogbetsotso Festival.
The festival will be held at Anloga, the traditional capital of Anlo State.
Hogbetsotso Festival, also known as Hogbeza, is one of the most celebrated festivals in Ghana. It is celebrated annually by the Anlos to commemorate the historic migration of the Ewe people from Notsie in present-day Togo to their present settlement.
The festival recounts the legendary escape of the Ewes from the wicked rule of King Agorkorli in Notsie, where they walked backwards to confuse their pursuers.
This year’s celebration is expected to attract a large number of people, including sons and daughters of Anlo from home and abroad, chiefs and queen mothers from across the country, government officials, diplomats, and tourists.
The grand durbar of chiefs, which is the highlight of the festival, will see the display of rich Ewe culture, drumming, dancing, and traditional rites.
Activities lined up for the celebration include purification rites, cultural performances, football matches, health walks, and other events aimed at promoting unity and development in Anlo.
The Anlo Traditional Council is expected to use the festival to deliberate on development issues affecting Anlo and the Volta Region as a whole.
The 2026 Hogbetsotso Festival promises to be a unique opportunity to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Anlo people and to strengthen the bonds of unity among Ewes worldwide.
