Tadzewu, Sept. 24, 24HourNews – A supporter of Division One side Nukunu FC, Ned K. Manasseh, has appealed to the President of the club, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, to reconsider the decision to adopt the Ho Sports Stadium as the club’s temporary home venue.
In an open letter addressed to the club president, Manasseh said while he respects the decision of management, the choice of Ho as a home ground deserves a second look considering the current squad and the welfare of supporters.
According to him, the current Nukunu FC squad has trained extensively and conducted its pre-season preparations on the newly constructed artificial turf at Anloga, and has become accustomed to an artificial surface. He argued that moving the team to Ho, which has a different playing surface and characteristics, could require difficult adjustment for the players.
He noted that although Nukunu FC achieved its historic Division One qualification at the Ho Sports Stadium, the team that secured promotion is not entirely the same team currently competing in Division One, as many key players from that campaign are no longer with the club.
Manasseh therefore questioned whether Ho remains the most appropriate venue for the current squad, stressing that the key consideration should be which venue gives the current team the best conditions to prepare, perform and maximise its chances of winning home matches.
He proposed WAFA Park in Sogakope as a more suitable alternative, arguing that it offers an artificial playing surface consistent with where the current squad has prepared, and would reduce the need for constant adjustment between different surfaces.
He further stated that Nukunu FC has already recorded success at WAFA Park, with players familiar with the environment and supporters likely to find it more accessible than travelling to Ho for every home fixture.
On the issue of supporters, Manasseh said Nukunu FC is blessed with loyal fans who have stood behind the club through difficult years, but expressed concern about the sustainability of expecting them to travel from Tadzewu to Ho throughout the entire league season.
He explained that transport fares, feeding, and time away from work and family could become financially and logistically burdensome, which could eventually affect attendance, gate revenue and the club’s home advantage.
He suggested that management explores the possibility of adopting WAFA Park as the club’s temporary home, subject to its availability, GFA approval and necessary financial and logistical arrangements.
Manasseh said the objective should be to see Nukunu FC survive and compete strongly in Division One while maintaining the connection between the club and the community that has carried it this far.
