Accra, Sept. 24, 24HourNews – The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, says government is pursuing far-reaching reforms aimed at building a productive, inclusive and sustainable sports economy for Ghana.
He said this earlier this week when he engaged a team from IMANI Centre for Policy and Education in Accra.
According to the Minister, the engagement provided an opportunity for him to share the journey of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation so far, the reforms being pursued, progress made and the vision for the future of Ghana’s sports sector.
Hon. Adams explained that the Ministry’s focus is to build a sports ecosystem anchored on three clear outcomes – Participation, Performance and Productivity.
He noted that government is working deliberately to put in place structures that will serve Ghana beyond today, with emphasis on sustainable financing, improved management of sports infrastructure, school and grassroots sports, athlete welfare, recreation, commercialisation and stronger governance.
The Minister said he appreciated the frank discussions, questions and perspectives shared by the IMANI team during the interaction.
He stressed that engagements of that nature are important because public policy becomes stronger when government is willing to explain its decisions, listen to independent views and remain accountable for the mandate entrusted to it.
Hon. Adams acknowledged that there is still considerable work to be done, but maintained that the direction is clear towards building a sports sector that is productive, inclusive and sustainable for the country.
