Ho, Sept. 21, 24HourNews – A final year student of the School of Hygiene in Ho, Agbalenyo Godwin, has made an emotional appeal to the public for financial support to enable him to complete his studies.
Godwin, who hails from Ketu North in the Volta Region, says his dream of becoming a health professional is on the verge of collapsing due to financial challenges.
In a heart-wrenching post that has since gone viral on social media, the young student narrated how his father, a steel bender who works under the scorching sun bending iron at construction sites, has single-handedly raised and educated four children.
According to him, his father’s strength is now failing due to old age and he can no longer provide enough for the family.
He disclosed that his elder brother is currently at the University of Education, Winneba, UEW, struggling to fend for himself, while his younger brother who completed ThreeTown Senior High School this year has resorted to following people to construction sites just to bring something home.
To add to the family’s burden, their last born has just completed Junior High School and is preparing to enter Anseco, which means more school fees and expenses for the already struggling family.
For Godwin himself, he says he has endured years of hardship to reach the final year, but now faces the painful reality of dropping out over unpaid fees and rent.
“For me, I have suffered to reach final year. I have come this far. My mates and I are about to finish, but now I have no money for my fees and rent. I lie awake at night thinking my journey will end here,” he lamented.
He is therefore appealing to benevolent individuals, NGOs, and well-meaning Ghanaians to come to his aid.
“Please, I am begging you. Help me finish. Even any small cedis will keep me in school. If you can’t help with money, please share this post for me,” he pleaded.
“May God never let your own children beg to complete school,” he added.
Godwin’s story highlights the plight of many brilliant but needy students in deprived communities who struggle to access tertiary education due to poverty.
