Anlo Awadada Demands Urgent Action On Coastal Crisis  

Anloga, Sept. 21, 24HourNews – The Awadada of Anlo, Torgbi Awusu II, has called for urgent and sustained action to protect coastal communities in Anlo as tidal waves and sea erosion continue to threaten livelihoods.

His call follows recent tidal-wave devastation at Fuveme and Blekusu which drew national attention and led to a visit by the President to assess the extent of damage.

During the visit, the President inspected severely affected areas at Fuveme where tidal waves have encroached on communities and also visited the ongoing Phase II Sea Defence Project at Blekusu designed to protect several coastal settlements.

Torgbi Awusu II said while funding and interventions have been announced, government must not wait for another disaster before acting decisively.

“We cannot wait for another disaster before action is taken,” he cautioned, stressing the need for proactive measures for communities still exposed to the advancing sea.

He noted that erosion continues to threaten homes, farmlands, livelihoods and critical infrastructure across coastal communities in Anlo.

According to him, the situation at Fuveme and Blekusu shows the urgency of the challenge and the need for swift implementation of protection measures to avert further destruction.

He called on government and relevant agencies to expedite work on sea defence projects to safeguard vulnerable communities.
