FDA Arrests Traders at Makola Over Sale of ‘Cigarette Toffee’  

 

Accra – Aug. 29 – 24HourNews – The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has arrested some traders at Makola Market in Accra for allegedly selling products locally referred to as “cigarette toffee.”

The enforcement operation forms part of efforts by the Authority to clamp down on the sale and distribution of products considered unsafe or unsuitable for consumption.

According to the FDA, its enforcement team visited sections of the market where the products were allegedly being sold and apprehended traders suspected to be involved.

The Authority says it has intensified monitoring and enforcement activities in recent times to prevent the sale of unapproved products and to protect consumers, particularly children, from potentially harmful items.

The FDA is expected to conduct further investigations into the seized products and the traders involved.
