Ex-Ketu South NPP Candidate Cautions National Leadership Over Decline of Party in Volta Region.  

Accra – Aug. 29 – 24HourNews – The 2020 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Ketu South, David Tiahno Quarshie, has issued a caution statement to the national leadership of the party over what he describes as the declining state of the NPP in the Volta Region.

In a press release dated Saturday, August 29, 2026, addressed to the national leadership, Mr. Quarshie said the Volta Region, once described as a no-go area for the NPP, recorded a significant breakthrough in 2016 when the party’s presidential votes appreciated to 15.35% under the leadership of Hon. John Peter Amewu as Regional Chairman.

He said that progress has however been eroded, with the party’s votes declining to 8.8% in the 2024 general elections under the leadership of Chairman Makafui Kofi Woanya, a development he described as a wake-up call.

“This letter is not to attack any individual, but a caution to leadership that if we continue this way, we risk collapsing the party in the Volta Region,” he stated.

Mr. Quarshie cited recent developments regarding regional appointments as an illustration of the party’s trajectory. He noted that on August 26, 2026, Regional Chairman Makafui Kofi Woanya issued a press release purportedly appointing several regional officers, but a disclaimer was issued same day by the Regional Secretary, Shabanton Moses Kwesi Dutsrogbe, declaring the appointments null and void on grounds that there was no official meeting of the elected Regional Executives to consider or approve them.

According to him, the disclaimer noted that issuing appointments without collective consultation is a direct violation of Article 9(10) of the NPP Constitution.

He added that the dysfunction is spilling into the party’s youth structures, pointing to a release on August 27, 2026, by the Volta Regional Youth Organizer, Emmanuel Senyo Amekplenu, debunking activities of some individuals falsely presenting themselves as the TESCON Coordinator for the region.

The former candidate said no such appointment had been made or officially communicated through established party structures, and that the situation signals a severe breakdown in discipline and unity.

Mr. Quarshie therefore appealed to the party to be guided by its Constitution, citing Article 2 and other provisions that call for fairness, inclusiveness and the rule of law, and to unite all stakeholders including former executives, MPs, parliamentary candidates, TESCON, women and youth to rebuild.

“Volta Region can bounce back. We have the people, the message, and loyal patriots ready to work. But we can only bounce back if we do the right thing, the right way,” he said.

He called on the National Council, the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Executive to intervene to put the Volta NPP back on track.
