Vice President Receives Democracy Cup At Jubilee House.

Accra – Aug. 28 – 24HourNews – Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang says she has received the Democracy Cup at the Jubilee House on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama after it was presented by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor.

She said the Democracy Cup, now in its third edition, promotes responsible citizenship and national unity.

“It also symbolises the shared responsibility of the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary to safeguard and strengthen our democracy,” she stated.

“Football and democracy have much in common. Both thrive on participation, rules, fairness and respect for institutions. While we may support different sides and disagree passionately, the game is ultimately bigger than any one side,” she added.

The Vice President noted that Ghana has earned international respect for its commitment to constitutional governance, but said the achievement must never be taken for granted.

“Our administration remains committed to strengthening our democratic institutions and building a society where Ghanaians can participate and debate ideas without being drawn into violence,” she said.

“I congratulate Parliament on sustaining the Democracy Cup and commend all the institutions and stakeholders whose contributions continue to make the initiative possible,” she stated.
