GOC Southern Command Visits Troops On Exercise Starlight Stretch III At Nkwanta.  

Nkwanta – Aug. 27 – 24HourNews – The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Southern Command, Brigadier General Edward Awaribey, visited troops participating in Exercise STARLIGHT STRETCH III at Nkwanta in the Oti Region on Thursday, August 27, 2026.

The visit formed part of the Command’s efforts to assess the exercise’s progress, interact with personnel and encourage troops to maintain high standards of professionalism, discipline and operational readiness.

As part of the exercise’s climaxing activities, the Ghana Army undertook community engagement aimed at strengthening civil-military cooperation and supporting the well-being of residents of Nkwanta.


The activities included a medical outreach which provided basic healthcare, health education and medical support to residents. Medical supplies were also donated to the Municipal Health Facility to support healthcare delivery.

Personnel also undertook a community clean-up exercise in selected areas of Nkwanta to promote environmental cleanliness, public health and community participation in maintaining a clean environment.

Brig. Gen. Awaribey commended the community for its warm reception and participation in the activities, noting that such engagements demonstrate the Ghana Armed Forces’ commitment to the security and wellbeing of the people.

He also commended the troops for their dedication and professionalism and urged them to remain focused on the exercise’s objectives. He stressed the importance of maintaining positive relations with the civilian population in promoting peace and security.

As part of the visit, the GOC paid a courtesy call on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nkwanta South to strengthen collaboration between the Ghana Armed Forces and the Municipal Assembly.

The GOC was accompanied by the Deputy Commander, Artillery Brigade, Colonel George Dottey, Command Operations Officer, Southern Command, Colonel Lawrence Agbedaowu, Chief G3, Artillery Brigade, Colonel Edward Appiah, Commanding Officer, 1 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Enoch Awudu and Deputy Chief Operations Officer, Southern Command, Lieutenant Colonel Seth Asare.
