Ablakwa Meets Serbian Ambassador Over NAM 65th Anniversary Invitation To Mahama.

Accra – Aug. 28 – 24HourNews – The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says he has held a fruitful meeting with the Serbian Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Milutin Stanojevic.

According to Mr. Ablakwa, Serbian President, His Excellency Aleksandar Vučić, has extended a special invitation to President John Dramani Mahama to attend the 65th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Belgrade, Serbia, from August 31 to September 1, 2026.

He said the meeting discussed preparations for the extraordinary summit.

“President Mahama will serve as special guest of honour largely because Ghana’s founder, The Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is a founding father of the Non-Aligned Movement,” he stated.

Mr. Ablakwa noted that the Non-Aligned Movement was formally established in Belgrade in the then Yugoslavia on September 1, 1961, by visionary leaders such as Ghana’s Kwame Nkrumah, Josip Broz Tito of modern day Serbia, Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Indonesian President Sukarno.

“65 years on, the foundational ideals of the NAM are ever so relevant. The principles of respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty; non-aggression; non-interference in domestic affairs; equality; nuclear disarmament and peaceful co-existence are much needed in today’s world,” he added.

“As Kwame Nkrumah famously noted: ‘We face neither East nor West; We face forward.’ Ghana will continue to cherish, hold dear and diligently abide by the enduring principles of Non-Alignment as espoused by our founder, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah,” Mr. Ablakwa said.
