Denu – Aug. 27 – 24HourNews – Electricity consumers in the Ketu South Municipality say they can no longer bear what they describe as exploitative billing by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and will take to the streets on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
The aggrieved customers, operating under the name Concerned Customers of Ketu South, have declared a peaceful protest to demand an end to over-billing, arbitrary estimated bills and the long delays in fixing faulty meters.
The protest, themed “Enough Is Enough! Stop the Over-Billing Now!”, is expected to draw hundreds of residents from across the municipality.
According to the organizers, several households and businesses have been slapped with exorbitant bills that do not reflect their actual consumption, as ECG officials fail to take accurate meter readings. In other cases, customers with faulty meters have waited for months without replacement, yet continue to receive inflated bills.
They also accuse the Denu District Office of ECG of poor customer service, with complaints either ignored or left unresolved for weeks.
“We are paying for darkness. We are paying bills that do not correspond to what we use. ECG must listen to us,” one of the organizers said.
The demonstrators are demanding that ECG immediately reverts to billing based on actual meter readings, refunds or adjusts wrongly charged bills, and speeds up the replacement of all faulty meters in the municipality.
They are also calling for transparency in ECG’s billing system and greater respect for consumer rights.
The peaceful march is scheduled to start at the Denu Junction and end at the ECG District Office in Denu, where a petition will be presented to management.
Organizers have urged all residents, shop owners, and electricity users in Ketu South to join the protest and to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout.
“This is not just about electricity bills; it is about fairness, dignity, and accountability,” the group stressed.
