First Deputy Speaker Hosts Peruvian Ambassador To Strengthen Ghana-Peru Parliamentary Ties.

Accra – Aug. 26 – 24HourNews – The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, has held a high-level meeting with the Ambassador of Peru to Ghana, H.E. Liliana Gómez de Weston, to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Hon. Ahiafor received the Ambassador and her delegation on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

Discussions centred on strengthening cooperation between the Parliament of Ghana and the Congress of Peru. Key among the proposals was the establishment of a Parliamentary Friendship League to foster collaboration, facilitate the exchange of best practices and enhance parliamentary diplomacy.

The two sides also explored avenues for broader cooperation in areas including trade, cocoa processing and value addition, drug control and the fight against illegal mining.

Hon. Ahiafor reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to working closely with the Peruvian Embassy and supporting initiatives aimed at consolidating the long-standing friendship between Ghana and Peru.

The meeting ended with an exchange of commemorative gifts, including the presentation of the book titled Peru–Ghana: A Journey of Friendship and Cooperation, published by the Peruvian Embassy in March 2026.

He expressed optimism about continued engagement to further deepen Ghana-Peru relations.
