
Prampram – Aug. 25 – 24HourNews – The 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Inter-Regional Division Two Championship has kicked off at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, Prampram.
This year’s tournament, which is the second edition, officially started on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, with a short opening ceremony before the first round of matches.

Member of Parliament for Ketu North and Chairman of the Planning Committee, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, performed the ceremonial kick-off to declare the championship open. He was joined by Executive Council Member Samuel Aboabire and National Juvenile Committee Chairman Joe Salam Abubakar.
Also in attendance were Vice-Chairman of the Organising Committee Enoch Agyare Addo, and committee members Samuel Owusu Amoah and Michael Fiaduse, together with other GFA officials and stakeholders.
Four matches have been lined up for the opening day. The Volta Region takes on Ashanti Region in the first game of Group A, while defending champions Eastern Region will begin their title defence against Upper West Region in the other Group A fixture.
In Group B, Central Region will face Brong Ahafo Region, with Upper East Region coming up against Northern Region in the final game of the day.
The 11-day championship brings together the best U-19 talents from across the country, offering them a platform to showcase their skills and catch the eye of scouts and national team handlers.
The tournament is sponsored by MTN Ghana and forms part of the Ghana Football Association’s “Power to the Youth” initiative, which seeks to create a clear pathway for young players from grassroots to the professional level.
