Ketu South, Keta And Anloga To Get New Spatial Development Blueprint.  

 

Ho – Aug. 25 – 24HourNews – Work has begun on a comprehensive Spatial Development Framework (SDF) for three coastal districts in the Volta Region – Ketu South, Keta and Anloga.

 

The process started with a three-day stakeholder validation workshop on the Situational Report for the project, organized with support from the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA) under the West African Coastal Areas Resilient Investment Project (WACA ResIP 2).

 

The SDF is expected to provide a long-term, coordinated blueprint to guide land use, infrastructure, investment and sustainable development across the three districts.

Opening the workshop, Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, said sustainable and deliberate spatial planning has become urgent as coastal communities continue to battle tidal waves, coastal erosion and the effects of climate change.

 

He noted that without a coordinated spatial plan, development along the coast risks becoming haphazard and unsustainable, leaving communities more vulnerable.

 

Hon. Gunu said the Framework will ensure that future projects and investments are well-coordinated, environmentally sustainable, and responsive to the needs of both present and future generations.

 

He explained that once completed, the document will serve as a critical reference for all Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as private investors seeking to undertake development within the three districts.

 

The ongoing validation exercise allows stakeholders to scrutinize findings in the Situational Report and make inputs to shape practical and resilient planning strategies.

 

The Minister commended LUSPA, the technical consultants, MDAs and all stakeholders for their commitment to the process, expressing optimism that the final SDFs will lead to safer, well-planned and resilient coastal communities in the Volta Region.
