Aflao – Aug. 24 – 24HourNews – The Youth and Development Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, Torgbui Tenuvi II, known in private life as Akonta Felix Akakpo, has announced the selection of 300 students who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Ketu South Municipality for his educational support initiative.
In a statement issued on August 24, Torgbui Tenuvi II said the selection was done meticulously and equitably across both public and private basic schools in the municipality.
He congratulated the nearly 5,000 candidates who participated in the examination and lauded those who excelled, noting that they had made Ketu South proud.
According to him, the 300 beneficiaries will each receive student mattresses, trunks, chop boxes, and other essential educational materials to aid their transition to Senior High School.
He noted that this year’s figure represents a significant increase from the 50 students supported in 2025, underscoring his commitment to expanding access to education.
The chief disclosed that in collaboration with the Ketu South Municipal Education Directorate, a date will be announced in September 2026 to formally celebrate and honour the beneficiaries before they depart to their respective schools.
He assured parents and guardians of the beneficiaries not to purchase the listed items, as the intervention is aimed at reducing the financial burden associated with SHS admission.
“This initiative is designed to complement Government’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy. It is a deliberate investment in our children, aimed at fostering a more literate and resilient society,” the statement said.
Torgbui Tenuvi II added that his support will be both in kind and cash, and that he will continue to monitor the academic progress of all beneficiaries to ensure the desired outcomes are achieved.
He urged parents to submit their wards’ first-choice Senior High Schools to their respective school heads on or before close of work on Tuesday, August 26, 2026.
He further pledged to complement the initiative with educational infrastructure development in his capacity as Youth and Development Chief, while government continues to deploy its limited resources for national development.
