Aflao – Aug. 23 – 24HourNews – When you equip a woman with knowledge, skills and confidence, you are not only changing her life, you are empowering a family and contributing to the development of an entire community.
That was the message from philanthropist and women empowerment advocate, Xornam Favour Ignatius Dei, when she chaired the graduation of seven young women trained in hairdressing and beauty care last Sunday in Aflao.
The ceremony was organized by the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHBA) of I.C.U., Aflao Zone, in collaboration with Biovpa Beauty Salon.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Dei said it was a beautiful and deeply fulfilling experience to witness the young women celebrate the completion of their training. She presented gifts and cash to each of the seven graduates and their Madam, whose dedication she commended.
According to her, learning a skill in this era is no longer an option, but an investment in one’s future.
“Academic education is important, but practical skills provide another powerful pathway to economic independence. A young woman who knows how to braid hair, style, sew, cook, decorate, design, use technology or provide any valuable service has something she can turn into a livelihood,” she stated.
Mrs. Dei referenced The Dei Foundation’s Apprenticeship Programme in April 2026, where the foundation supported and graduated young ladies after more than four years of hairdressing and beauty-care training.
She said true empowerment means investing in skills, creating opportunities and equipping women to become financially independent and self-reliant.
She urged young women to embrace entrepreneurship and develop the courage to create opportunities for themselves rather than waiting for opportunities to come.
“Your certificates are not the end of the journey; they are the beginning of a new chapter. Go out there, put your skills to work, continue learning, build your brands and become employers of labour,” she charged the graduates.
Mrs. Dei reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives that equip women and girls with the tools to become financially independent and active contributors to society.
