*Akatsi – Aug. 22 – 24HourNews -* The 55th edition of the Volta Region Inter-Districts Sports Festival has been climaxed at the Akatsi Senior High Technical School (AKAST) with a call for improved sports infrastructure to boost youth development in the region.

The week-long festival ended yesterday, Friday, August 21, 2026, with contingents from 18 districts competing in various disciplines.

The Youth and Development Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, Torgbui Tenu II, Felix Akonta Akakpo, who joined Education Directors, Sports Coordinators, teachers and pupils to grace the closing ceremony, congratulated Team Ketu South for their impressive performance.

Despite a demanding schedule, Torgbui Tenu II said he travelled from Accra purposely to offer his physical and moral support to the gallant athletes representing the Ketu South Municipality, who competed in the girls’ volleyball and boys’ soccer finales.

Team Ketu South placed 1st and 3rd overall in the girls’ and boys’ disciplines respectively.

As Youth and Development Chief, Torgbui Tenu II also represented the Aflao Traditional Council at the symbolic handing over of the games’ flag to Ketu South, which will host the 56th edition in 2027.

Speaking after the event, he bemoaned the lack of modern sports infrastructure across the Volta Region, describing it as a pressing concern for youth development.

He said, however, that the spirited and resilient performance of the Ketu South contingent has energized his resolve to work assiduously to ensure the timely completion of ongoing sports infrastructure projects ahead of the Municipality’s hosting duties.

To this end, Torgbui Tenu II has made two key pledges:

1. A financial support package to the Volta Regional team as they prepare for the national games.

2. Donation of new jerseys and tracksuits in large quantities to the Ketu South delegation ahead of next year’s games, in response to an appeal by the leadership of the team.

He assured that preparations to host a successful and befitting 56th edition, which will showcase the unparalleled hospitality of the people of Ketu South, have begun.

Torgbui Tenu II further assured the Education Directorate and the Municipal Assembly of the unwavering commitment of the Traditional Authorities to work collaboratively to make the next games a resounding success.

He extended his heartfelt congratulations to Team Ketu South and expressed gratitude to parents who permitted their wards to participate in the week-long event.
