James Gunu Presents 2 Tricycles to Ho Teaching Hospital to Ease Patient Movement

 

HO, Aug. 9, 24HourNews – Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has handed over two passenger tricycles to Ho Teaching Hospital HTH to kickstart an internal shuttle service for patients.

The tricycles are part of a 5-unit pledge made by the Regional Minister after the Hospital’s Governing Board appealed to him for support during a recent meeting. The Board said patients were struggling to move across the hospital’s wide campus.

The new shuttle system is designed to help patients, visitors and hospital users who find it difficult to walk long distances between wards, clinics, labs, pharmacy and other units.

The service is expected to be a major relief for the elderly, post-surgery patients, persons with mobility challenges, and anyone recovering from treatment who needs assistance getting around.

By cutting down walking distances, hospital authorities believe the initiative will reduce fatigue and stress for patients, while also making it easier and faster to access care across departments.

The tricycles are also expected to improve hospital operations. Officials say the shuttles will help reduce delays, improve patient flow, cut missed appointments, and allow nurses and clinical staff to focus more on treatment instead of escorting patients.

Receiving the donation, the Board Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer of HTH thanked Hon. Gunu for his quick response.

The Board Chairman noted that the support goes beyond transport — calling it an investment in patient comfort, safety and dignity, and a sign of shared responsibility to improve healthcare.

The CEO said the gesture fits into HTH’s goal of enhancing patient experience. He appealed to corporate bodies, development partners and philanthropists to support similar projects to strengthen service delivery at the hospital.

Hon. Gunu said the donation reflects government’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible and humane in the Volta Region.
