DZODZE, Aug. 7, 24HourNews – The Acting Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ketu North, Hon. Mac-Thompson Gbeti, has declared his intention to contest as the substantive chairman, citing the need to reorganize the party and “capture power in 2028.”
Addressing delegates ahead of the constituency elections scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2026, Mr. Gbeti said he has served as acting chairman for the past four years following the exit of the substantive chairman in 2022, in line with the party’s constitution.
He thanked the political heads, council of elders, polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and all party stakeholders in Ketu North for their support during his tenure.
“Ketu North is saying they need a chairman who is with them, a chairman who can be with them, who can listen to them 24 hours. A chairman that they can call upon and he will respond. I have been doing it,” Mr. Gbeti said.
The chairman aspirant said his major achievement as acting chairman has been the commencement of a two-story NPP constituency office on the Tadzewu Road, opposite Master P Mechanic Shop.
He noted that with the current rented office’s lease expiring in December 2026, his first priority if elected will be to complete at least the first floor of the new office before the end of the year.
“This has been the dream of every card-bearing member and all the sympathizers of the NPP in Ketu North… I can boast in saying that we have started the party office project that we have to continue and finish,” he stated.
Mr. Gbeti, who doubled as an Assembly Member, said he is number one on the ballot paper for the chairmanship contest.
He added that 1,205 delegates are expected to cast their votes tomorrow at the Dzodze R/C Demonstration School, and that 31 aspirants are contesting various portfolios in the constituency elections.
Mr. Gbeti said his agenda for the constituency will focus on building the party’s institutional capacity by completing the new office, empowering party members through welfare support and apprenticeship programmes to strengthen the human resource base, and transforming the party through effective monitoring, evaluation, and accountability.
He added that he will also target every polling station with a comprehensive database and data-driven electoral strategies, expand the party’s representation in District Assembly and Unit Committee elections, and reconnect with communities through active grassroots engagement to ensure executives remain accessible and responsive to members 24 hours.
He emphasized that empowering members is key to strengthening the party’s human resource base and visibility in Ketu North.
Mr. Gbeti said he is receiving support across all four zones of the constituency – Dzodze, Penyi, Afife, and Weta – and expressed confidence ahead of the August 8 elections.
