Chiefs and elders of the Some Traditional Council have rolled out a GH¢1,076,000 development blueprint to be executed in tandem with this year’s Somètutuza Festival.
Unveiled at the official launch in Agbozume, the plan puts youth empowerment, education, clean communities, and cultural heritage at its core. This year’s festival will be celebrated under the theme: “Harnessing the Potential of Youth for Socio-Cultural Preservation, Economic Prosperity, and Tourism Development to Foster Peace and Unity.”
Council leaders said the investment is aimed at tackling pressing community needs while using the festival as a platform to drive growth in the Some Traditional Area.
What the package covers:
– Education: 1,000 dual desks to be distributed to basic schools, plus a new scholarship scheme for academically gifted students from low-income homes.
– Sanitation: Four large waste containers to be placed in key areas to improve refuse collection and public health.
– Water Access: Projects to extend potable water to underserved communities.
– Festival Operations: Dedicated funding to support logistics and coordination for the month-long event.
The 2026 Somètutuza Festival will run from September 1 to October 4. The calendar opens with the traditional ban on drumming, noise-making and funerals, followed by prayers, libation, and reconciliation rites.
Other activities include tours of tourist attractions, inter-school quizzes, a youth leadership summit, health walk, voluntary blood donation, music and cultural night, sports, and a grand durbar of chiefs. The celebrations will close with a thanksgiving service on October 4.
According to the Council, the dual focus on development and culture is intended to promote peace, safeguard tradition, and position Ketu South as a hub for tourism and economic opportunity.
