The Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu North, Hon. Martin Amenaki, has convened engineers working on the Lot 8B segment of the Big Push road, Torgbuiwo, Mamawo, Assembly Members and the media for a stakeholder engagement to address growing concerns around the project.
Hon. Amenaki said the meeting was necessary due to “a lot of agitations and miscommunications, misinformation going on regarding the road as if I am not doing my work.”
He stated that he has on several occasions engaged the contractors on site and insisted they “do the right thing,” adding that he has “fought with them.”
“But unfortunately, none of you were there to see what was happening for you to report,” he said.
He cited an example from a recent general cleaning exercise at Point, where a media person was present to capture and report the issue.
“It’s as if I care about one side without caring for the other side. That’s why I brought everybody, the stakeholders involved in the construction of this road together,” he added.
During the discussions, residents raised concerns about the size of the gutters being constructed, the width of the road, and why some houses had not been demolished.
The contractors also outlined challenges on the ground, including resistance from some house owners who have refused to allow demolitions, and instances where workers were “threatened to be gunned down.”
To resolve the impasse, Hon. Amenaki announced the formation of a five-member committee comprising one Mama, one Torgbui, and three Assembly Members from Dzodze. The committee will serve as a liaison between the community and the construction company.
“There were some houses that were an impediment on the way of the contractor that he could not do what he’s supposed to do. Those houses are all earmarked. With the support of the Torgbui and the committee, they will go into it and see to it that within the shortest possible time, they pull them down to pave the way for the construction of the dual carriage,” he stated.
The MCE assured residents that the Assembly remains committed to ensuring the Lot 8B project is delivered smoothly while addressing community concerns.
