CLEAN WATER FINALLY FLOWS IN ANYAKO AND SEVA AFTER 20 YEARS

The residents of Anyako, Seva, and surrounding communities in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region are now enjoying access to clean and safe drinking water following the commissioning of the Anyako-Seva Water Supply Project by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu.

The project was commissioned on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama during a ceremony attended by the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei; the Chief Executive Officer of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Vincent Kuagbenu; the Member of Parliament for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey; and the Municipal Chief Executive for Keta, Wisdom Seade, together with other Municipal and District Chief Executives and dignitaries.

Speaking at the commissioning, Hon. James Gunu noted that for almost twenty years, residents of Anyako, Seva, and nearby communities struggled to access clean and safe drinking water.

According to him, the completion of the project marks the end of that long-standing challenge as potable water is now available to improve the health and livelihoods of the people.

The modern water system includes a hybrid solar-powered pumping system, water treatment facilities, transmission pipelines, rehabilitated reservoirs, an extensive distribution network, and smart tap standpipes to ensure efficient and sustainable water supply.

Hon. Gunu expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Government of Ghana for prioritizing the needs of the communities and supporting the successful completion of the project.

He further revealed that household pipe-borne water connections will be extended to homes between June and December 2026 to expand access to safe drinking water for more residents.

The Volta Regional Minister also commended the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, contractors, consultants, traditional authorities, and residents of Anyako, Konu, and Seva for their patience and cooperation throughout the implementation of the project.

He emphasized that access to safe water is a basic human right and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue delivering essential infrastructure and development projects to communities across the Volta Region.
